David Thompson
Department Specialist Applied Linguistics and English as a Second Language- Biography
After completing his undergraduate degree in Applied Linguistics at Georgia State University in 2013 David spent the next four years traveling and teaching abroad. He worked in Logroño, Spain for one year as a EFL teaching assistant in Spanish public schools before moving on to work with AMIDEAST in Sousse, Tunisia for three years where he taught EFL to students of all ages and abilities. The U.S. Embassy in Tunis recognized him for his contributions to the education and personal growth of Tunisian students in the English Access Microscholarship Program in 2014. After returning to Georgia, David completed the MA program in Applied Linguistics at GSU in 2019. He has traveled extensively in the Middle East and North Africa including Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia and has spent time in Europe and Latin America. His interests include sociolinguistics, intercultural communication, EFL/ESL teaching, Spanish and Arabic literature in translation, the language of the news media, language policy and corpus methodologies. He currently serves as the Support Administrator for the Intensive English Program at Georgia State.
